Pre Production: Concept Art
I started by doing a simple line drawing of the structure of the greenhouse, making sure I had got the perspective correct before continuing. In the next stage I blocked out the colours establishing a dramatic stream of sunlight and shadow just like Ravilious. After completing these initial stages I went in and added the detail, the plants, the figures and the grainy textures. I was really pleased with the result, creating something which set the tone of the film capturing the narrative and the relationship between the two women. I think the grainy textures was one of the biggest strengths of the painting, realistically capturing the opaqueness of the sunbeam and creating a interesting textured surface rather than being just flat. On reflection I could of perhaps made the shadows stronger which would have created more contrast and a greater sense of depth and space.
