Pre Production: Character Design
After doing a few studies of the environment my focus turned to character design. Due to a lack of experience in this field I found this the hardest aspect of my project. I wanted my characters to reflect the surroundings, so I looked at artists such as Picasso and Matisse as they are well known for depicting organic voluptuous shaped woman. This aided my design dramatically and I was able to create a whole experimental sheet of potential characters.
From this I selected three of the most interesting silhouettes and developed them further creating technical turnarounds. Although time consuming it helped me on many levels, realising my characters in 3D, familiarising myself with the form and giving my team member good reference to draw from. I intentionally designed my characters to have a sense of elegance and style, to add a level of absurdity and comedy to the story. Due to their classy appearance they are unexpected characters to be reduced to fighting. To get achieve this I looked at 1960’s ‘Vogue’ covers as reference drawing on the hats and clothes they wore.
