Mouse in the house: backgrounds

I thoroughly enjoyed researching Chris Ware as an artist and getting into his style by replicating it and unpicking his thought processes. After in-depth research I began to experiment creating my own work with his style in mind, this was a lengthy process of exploration through much trial and error.

For the film pitch I created a animatic and ‘poster’ image, this was a good starting point for my production as I was able to work out the feel of the film and what I wanted to get across to the audience.

My story was to be viewed from the outside of a couple’s house looking in through the windows. It was important to me that I included the setting in my poster, as it plays a major part in my film as we the audience are outside. I took quite a lot of my time planning the composition out, working out what layout draws you eye in, since the poster is meant to grip your attention with just one glance.

Staying true to Chris Ware’s style I drew it in a very linear way, using a very limited colour palette of tertiary colours, I think the outcome worked well and I was pleased with the final poster.
