Shelter Box: Concept Idea
In our first meeting we sat down and pinpointed what we wanted to focus on and what informational detail we felt was important to include. With the client in mind and knowing our target audience, we agreed that we wanted to show specific characters, for example Rebecca the 11 year old girl who had been in an earthquake, as it would be more relatable and emotive. We also felt it was important to show a whole rage of disasters which Shelter box send aid to, both natural and social disasters.
With this in mind we starting brainstorming ways we could show multiple places on the world. Me and Honor came up with the idea of having a spinning world which could take you to the different disasters along with spinning to the Shelter Box HQ in Truro. Everyone thought that the idea would work really well, in terms of transitioning from different countries so we started to work out the logistics of it.
Along with coming up with the concept and script we thought it was really important to establish a strong design and look for the film. We wanted the animation to have an almost ‘pop up’ paper book look to it as though our characters and background had been cut out. So I set about creating a mood board of art work and styles we liked. It was important that everyone understood the style we were going to work in, and the mood board made sure that everyone was on the same page in terms of design, as consistency is key.
