Mouse In the House: Character design

Chris ware didn’t focus too much on the character in terms of design, so I was left with little guidance as reference. The characters which featured in his work were simplistic and drawn in little detail wearing mundane clothes. I worked as closely as I could to his style having to use my imagination of what he would have done given the same story.


A clear theme which runs through all of Chris Ware’s characters is the ‘everyday’, his characters are usually dressed in work clothes or casual home wear. So when I was designing my characters I made sure to dress them in fitting clothing. For the husband I chose for him to be dressed in a waistcoat, trousers and tie as though he had come from work,
