Life drawing class: 3

Like most of the life classes we started again by doing quick poses to get us into the feel of looking, observing and drawing. This class we were given black ink as our medium to work in, this meant that our marks were much more fluid and gestural as controlling watery inks and a long paint brush is harder than a dry medium such as a pencil. This therefore made my quick posses look a lot freer and not in stiff positions.
In our class we didn't use ink for a longer pose, which I would have liked to. It would have been interesting to see if a longer pose would have captured the same kind of rhythm and dynamism.

For our last pose we switched back to charcoal and pastel, this was a more sustained pose where we had to tackle the male form reclining. I found this pose one of the most challenging as you had to make the figure have a realistic sense of weight slumped on some cushions. I think to some degree I have achieved this, his right leg does convincingly look like it is relaxed resting on the cushions below, but I could of perhaps made his left leg look like it was bearing more weight by showing tensed muscles.
