Life drawing class: 2
For this life drawing class we had a male model to pose for us. I had always previously drawn women in life drawing classes, so this was something new to me. We started the class off by doing lots of quick poses, this really helped me to loosen up, and get me focusing on the form in front. We then moved on to do slightly longer poses of 15 minutes. Here I was able to do a bit of measuring, and also planning of where the body will be positioned on the paper, the drawing below was the result of this.

Later on in the class, we started to focus on light and dark tones. We were given a black piece of paper and told to do the opposite of what we were use to, instead of drawing the outline of the body we had to build the form first out of the light tonal areas. I think this excercise was very successful, as the light tonal areas give the body a sense of 3 dimensionality which just line wouldn't be able to do. What I struggled with when doing this drawing was the foreshortment of the legs, I found it difficult to make his left leg look like it was projecting forewards towards me. This is something which I want to get better at over the next classes.
