Sketchbook brief: Toy story
'Toy story' was the first brief given to us in week one. The brief stated that we had to take a toy on a week of adventures, drawing it multiple times at different locations and settings. Since I didn't bring any toys to university, I went to a charity shop and picked out a soft teddy which was the character 'Tiger' from 'Winnie the Pooh'. I took my teddy on adventures that a student would have, for example, going to the pub, visiting a friend, working, in bed, and washing up.
I really enjoyed this project as it got me out of the studio, drawing from real life, and real situations. This is something I definetely want to get into the habit of doing, as you really have to look at the objects in front of you, which improves your eye for drawing and also animating.
Next to all of my drawings I noted down the time at which I drew them eg. The pub scene I drew at 9:00. Ideally I wish that my drawings followed a sequence starting with my teddy getting up in the morning to going to the pub in the evening, as this would give it more sense of story. Instead the times are jumbled as I drew them on different days.
Overall I am pleased with this project and hope to do some more like it.
